Meeting at the CEC with the delegation of OSCE ODIHR

On March 17, 2017 the chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov met with the delegation of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, headed by the director Michael Georg Link.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission informed members of the delegation about the work done and activities of the Central Election Commission on the way to improving electoral legislation and law enforcement practice.

In turn, the Director of the OSCE ODIHR appreciated the attention paid to the country's further improvement of the electoral system, in particular, the creation of the necessary conditions for the free expression of the will of citizens.

During the meeting, it was stressed that OSCE representatives have been actively participated as observers in the elections of Uzbekistan since 1999, the proposals and recommendations of the OSCE ODIHR are thoroughly studied and taken into consideration in order to further improve national legislation on elections, their open and free conduct in accordance with democratic principles and International standards.

The sides noted readiness for the continuation of bilateral relations and exchanged views on strengthening further cooperation as well as discussed the main directions of cooperation between the Central Election Commission and the OSCE ODIHR.

The meeting was attended by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, John McGregor, senior officials of the Central Election Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.

On that same day, the OSCE ODIHR delegation had a meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
