Europe and CIS Regional BRIDGE Workshop on Electoral Systems

From 12 to 16 of September, 2011 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. the member
of Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadikov
Janabay participated in Regional BRIDGE Workshop on Electoral Systems
organized by the UNDP’s Democratic Governance Group of the Bureau for
Development Policy (DGG/BDP) and UNDP Bratislava Regional Center (UNDP
BRC) in cooperation with UNDP/Turkmenistan. Also the representatives of
UNDP Moldova, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia, members and 26 representatives of
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, and Tajikistan attended the workshop.
This five-day workshop was intended to introduce BRIDGE concepts of
Electoral Systems: a) the main development principles of election
system, b) the meaning of the alternative, plural/majority system, c)
the proportional representatives, d) the system of proportional
representatives by party lists, e) mixed and mixed-proportional
systems, f) the process of voting and summarizing the results of
election.
Also was discussed questions about the election on
Europarliament, election systems of European countries and CIS,
Australia, Great Britain, Brazil, Sudan, Lebanon, Lesotho, New Zealand,
Japan and existing quotas for (women, national minorities, indigenous
nationalities, small parties) in the electoral legislation of
governments.
In conclusion all the participants took the
certificates and book “Electoral systems” published under the BRIDGE
project in Russian.
