Election Campaign Gains Momentum

Press center of the Central Election Commission organized a press conference for national and foreign journalists.
Mirzo-Ulug’bek Abdusalomov, chairman of the Central Election Commission informed about the activity on establishment of constituency, formation of district electoral commissions for election to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and admission of political parties to participation in the upcoming elections. This work was fulfilled in compliance with the Concept on preparation and holding elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional, district and municipal councils of people’s representatives.
According to Article 7 of the law “On election to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, elections to the Legislative Chamber should be held in 135 territorial single-seat electoral districts on the multiparty basis. Having considered proposals by local state authority bodies, the Central Election Commission made a decision with regard to forming electoral districts at the meeting October 9 to conduct elections to the Legislative Chamber to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The list of electoral districts with their names, serial numbers, borders and number of electors was published in the press.
The Central Election Commission decided to form district electoral commissions during its meeting October 16 for elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in accordance with Article 11 of the Law “On elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, was noted at the press conference.
“District electoral commissions are formed of authoritative community representatives taking into account their business and professional background as well as experience in participation in elections to representative bodies of state authority. Members of district electoral commissions are usually representatives of education, healthcare sphere, public associations and industrial sector. There are representatives of ten nationalities in district electoral commissions. According to the national election legislation, members of district electoral commissions cannot be members of any political party,” CEC chairman noted.
Lists of members to district commissions with address and phone numbers of commissions were published in the local press.
Participants of the press conference also informed that each of the four political parties functioning in the country presented all the necessary documentation for nomination of their candidates to the Central Election Commission: application for participation in election signed by the party’s head, reference from the Ministry of Justice confirming that the political party was registered there not later than four months prior to the day the election campaign was announced, and electorate subscription lists supporting its participation in elections to the lower house of parliament.
The Central Election Commission formed a working group for checking the correctness of subscription lists presented by political parties. It consists of specialists, experts, community representatives. According to the new regulations in election legislation, the working group includes authorized representatives of political parties who take part in checking the correctness of subscription lists.
Mirzo-Ulug’bek Abdusalomov informed that the Central Election Commission admitted People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Businessmen and Entrepreneurs’ Movement – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan to partake in the elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis in the order the applications were presented.
The CEC took into account the decision of the Ecology Movement of Uzbekistan to take part in elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well.
Besides, Mirzo-Ulug’bek Abdusalomov, chairman of the Central Election Commission, answered all questions of local and foreign mass media regarding the preparations to elections in Uzbekistan.
