The roundtable entitled “Elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan as an implementation of democratic principles” was held at the Tokyo “Takushoki” University.

The Japanese participants of the roundtable have learned about the processes of reforms now underway in Uzbekistan in the sphere of social, political and civil society building, further democratization and liberalization of society. They have also said that the constitutional principles enshrined in the election legislation of Uzbekistan fully meet the requirements of the Universal Human Rights Declaration, International pact on civil and political rights, materials of Copenhagen conference of 1990 and Declaration of Parliament council on criteria of free and fair elections adopted in 1994.

The chairman of the Center T.Tanaka has said that a peculiar feature of the presidential elections in Uzbekistan is nomination to the high state post of the candidates from all political parties registered in Uzbekistan, as well as the initiative group of citizens.
