At Central Election Commission

The Central Election Commission convened for a meeting March 10, 2011. It has been presided by Chairman of the Commission Mirzo-Ulughbek Abdusalomov.
Chairman of the Central Election Commission expounded on tasks of CEC deriving from the speech by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan that took place November 12, 2010.
It has been noted that in addressing the objectives outlined in the Concept of Intensifying the Democratic Reforms and Forming Civil Society in the Country, members of CEC held a series of practical seminars in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent aimed at interpreting the essence and significance of legislative initiatives of the head of state in ensuring the freedom of choice and development of electoral legislation. The seminars were attended by members of regional, district, municipal election commissions along with representatives of wider public.
The need for explaining to the wider public the underlying principles of lawmaking proposals unveiled by the head of state towards refining the electoral legislation, timely holding of projected actions and using the capacities of mass media has been particularly stressed at the meeting.
Members of CEC have been informed of the efforts undertaken to prepare projects of normative acts that would execute the Concept of Intensifying the Democratic Reforms and Forming Civil Society in the Country in the realm of securing the freedom of choice and further evolution of electoral legislation. It was pointed out that representatives of parliament, political parties and specialists in electoral franchise have been instrumental in the work on this front based on the critical analysis and revision of acting norms of legislation by a thorough study of national and international experience.
In accordance with Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Status of Deputy of the Legislative Chamber and Member of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, Article 5 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, issues related to terminating the powers of deputies of the Legislative Chamber and members of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for objective reasons were also considered at the meeting, and appropriate resolutions were adopted.
Other matters pertaining to the activities of the Central Election Commission have been deliberated as well.
