Legislative Chamber and Senate convene for a joint session

The Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan convened for a joint session in Tashkent on November 12.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov took part in the session. The event has been attended by members of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of government agencies, national organizations, chiefs of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with reporters of foreign and local mass media.
Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis Dilorom Tashmuhamedova chaired the session. Members of the Legislative Chamber and senators elected the secretariat and approved the agenda.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was offered floor before the participants of the meeting, and delivered a speech entitled Concept of Intensifying the Democratic Reforms and Forming Civil Society in the Country.
The head of our state proposed a range of legislative initiatives directed at bolstering and consolidating the branches of power – parliament in particular – in addressing the vital national objectives, at enhancing the role of political parties, perfecting the judicial system, the electoral legislation of the country, fostering civil society institutions, mass media, as well as stepping up the democratic market reforms and liberalization of the economy.
The Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved a joint resolution on the report of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Kengashes (Councils) of both houses of parliament have been tasked to arrange for discussion of fundamental provisions of the speech by the head of state during general sessions of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
