The Central Election Commission (CEC) responsible for preparation and conduction of election approved the respective regulation “On the procedure of nominating candidates to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Ecology Movement of Uzbekistan and their election” September 17. The date of the conference in the capital of Uzbekistan where 15 deputies of the lower chamber of the parliament will be delegated from the Ecology Movement by means of secret vote of the conference delegates was appointed in compliance with this document.

As commented Boriy Alikhanov, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Central Council of the Ecology Movement of Uzbekistan, the regulation assigns to conduct conferences in Tashkent municipal, regional and Karakalpak branches of the movement no later than 35 days prior to the general conference. Equal number of 25 delegates should be elected by the secret vote from each territorial branch in those conferences.

“In accordance with the norms of this regulation the Executive Committee of the Central Council of the Ecology Movement approved the schedule for territorial conferences. They have been already held in Karakalpak Republican branch, Khorazm, Bukhoro, Navoi, Surkhondaryo and Namangan regional branches of the movement so far by November 10. From 350 to 400 delegates representing all districts of these regions took part in each conference,” Alikhanov said.

Participants of territorial conferences noted that they were held on high organizational level. Polling booths and ballot boxes of patterns specified by CEC were prepared in rooms for secret vote. All participants of conferences are informed about the date and place of events beforehand through the local mass media. The conferences are also covered in television, radio and press.

“Rise of ecological culture of the population and development of ecological education is the principal task of the movement,” noted Bakhtiyor Isakov, activist of the Ecology Movement, teacher at the Namangan State University. “In order to fulfill this task an idea of ecological culture should be formed in each family, primary and general school. Rise of the level of ecological education in school is of big importance. Provision of activists of the Ecology Movement with seats in the Legislative Chamber and involvement of ecologists into lawmaking should promote the nature conservation activity to the qualitatively new level as well as solution of urgent ecological challenges and problems.”

As deputy chairman of Central Election Commission Qo’chqo’r Tagaev commented, CEC members took part in all territorial conferences of the Ecology Movement. They noted that conferences met all norms and requirements of election legislation on democratic basis. No violation was observed there.
We should note that territorial conferences take place in Andijon, Farg’ona and Qashqadaryo regions this week.
