OSCE Permanent Representatives in Vienna visited the Republic of Uzbekistan

                On October 10, 2019, a meeting was held with the heads of the CEC and the OSCE Permanent Mission in Vienna. During the open dialogue discussion, the guests were informed in detail about a number of topical issues of the CEC, including changes in the electoral legislation, the adopted electoral code and new norms, and the organizational aspects of the preparation for the elections.

      As it was noted, on December 22 of this year in Uzbekistan will be held elections to the deputies of the Legislative Chamber and local kengashes. This political event organized under the slogan of "New Uzbekistan - New elections". A number of changes added to new election code of Uzbekistan.

     In particular, according to the Code, 150 territorial constituencies will be created to hold elections to deputies of the Legislative Chamber. Earlier, 135 constituencies were created and 15 deputies were elected from the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan. Now, with the establishment of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, this political party can take place from Legaslative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, by nominating its candidates for general elections.

    The Election Code of the Republic contains about 30 such news. This also contributes to hold the elections in the transparent atmosphere. One of them is the formation of a unified voter list. 20 million 600,000 people are expected to vote in elections this year.

    There were many such examples during the conversation.

     It was noted that during the developing of the Election Code, the experience of more than 50 leading countries was used, as well as recommendations from the OSCE, SCO, UN, World Association of Electoral Bodies, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and international election principles and standards were studied.

 Such reforms in the electoral legislation will further strengthen the position of political parties. Another important issue is that further protection of voting right of citizens is one of the main principles of the CEC.

It was also informed about the work being done in this direction. It was noted that during this year's election, special attention was paid to the training of election commission members, 30 foreign trainers were trained by foreign experts in order to manage information system of the election process. 2,250 regional trainers are training at the moment and it is planned to train more than 34,000 election commission members.

   According to the Election Code, the CEC has so far adopted more than 10 decisions aims to approve regulations and instructions. In addition, a number of memorandums of cooperation were signed with a number of ministries and departments.

Currently, the CEC plans to develop a project of the regulation on recounting voting results, reviewing voter applications and announcing election results.
