Discussing priority tasks of media coverage of the elections

The Press Service of the Central Election Commission (CEC) plays a critical role in urgent and high-quality coverage of such an important political event of the year, as the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

For this reason, the CEC and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Office in Uzbekistan organized a two-day seminar on “Effective media coverage of the election process”. It was attended by the CEC staff.

The aim of the event was to improve the quality of PR and media materials of the national media and to contribute to broader coverage of the upcoming presidential elections.

The first day of the seminar focused on the role of the election commission press service in ensuring the openness and transparency of the election campaign and their cooperation with the media.

The trainers emphasized the role of the CEC press service in covering the electoral process, public relations, as well as the use of foreign experience in interacting with journalists.

In the second part of the seminar, the participants, divided into groups, considered the problems and mechanisms to address them in media coverage of the electoral process. Upon completion of the classes, the participants specified the problems and summarized the proposals.

As was noted by the trainers, it is important for media representatives to check the accuracy of information in their media output and provide it objectively by observing the professional ethics of a journalist.

In this regard, the CEC Press Service would need to provide journalists with reliable and necessary information in due time.

The reports on the use of PR technologies during the electoral period, ways out of crisis situations, journalist ethics in covering elections were presented to the participants.

To note, it is planned to conduct online trainings for journalists who will cover the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the foreseeable future.
